Roy Jones Jr. wants TKO loss to Danny Green overturned

Roy The promotion company of veteran boxing champion Roy Jones Jr. has asked an Australian boxing commission to "disqualify" Danny Green and overturn the Aussie's surprising first-round TKO victory over Jones earlier this month. Jones' representatives point to alleged excessive use of wrapping tape and bandages on Green's hands.

In a letter to an official of the Combat Sports Industry in Sydney, John Wirt, the chief executive of Jones' Square Ring Promotions, wrote that the wraps "contain an adhesive (polyamide substrate with latex coating) that allows the wrapping to be stretched and secured tightly with a hardening effect (similar to an ACE bandage) in a way that is substantially different from the effect obtained by using traditional soft surgical-type gauze bandages."

Darchinyan a giant trapped in super-fly body

ON THE eighth day, the god of boxing was tired, having spent his energy putting speed into the featherweight's feet, lightning into the fists of the middleweights, thunder into the colossal heavyweights and tenacity into the cruiserweight's soul …

But the creator of pugilsts had a dilemma, he had just enough clay and rock left over to mould a super-flyweight's frame but more than enough coal to fuel a heavyweight. With a mischievous laugh, he mixed it together and called his creation Vic Darchinyan, a demon who'd shock and awe fans and terrify those cursed to cross his path.

It might sound far-fetched, but that scenario would answer a number of questions that have buzzed in Darchinyan's head ever since he was a boy who believed he was a heavyweight trapped in too small a frame.

Green hires Shaw to catch Hopkins

Danny Green is focusing his attention on a fight with Bernard Hopkins. He retained the services of veteran promoter Gary Shaw, who is now advising Green and trying to make the fight happen. Hopkins has expressed interest in fighting Green, and depending on the money - he might accept an offer to take the fight in Australia.

"Gary is advising me and we're doing a plan. It's out of my control at the moment. It's up to Bernard on where he wants to go. If he wants it in Australia or he wants to do it here in America. Of course we have to agree to the terms. Hopefully we sign it and get the fight on. It make sense to do that fight. It's a natural progression. They were supposed to fight Jones. They overlooked me. Now he can scratch out Roy's name and put my name on the contract. It's the biggest and most lucrative fight out there," Green said.
